A DAY VAN PHUC SILK VILLAGE – TRAM GIAN & VO VI PAGODA

 CHUONG CONICAL HAT VILLAGE

Van Phuc specializes in silk. Lots of visitors would love to buy, order tailor-made clothes or observe worker making silk on looms. Many of fine silk items you see on sale in Hanoi street are made in Van Phuc. There’s a small daily fruit-and-vegetable market here in the mornings, and a pretty village pagoda with a lily pond.

Tram Gian Pagoda: nestles snugly on that hill in a natural cushion of mature trac, or kingwood and tram, or canari trees, and watched over by giant pines. It is impressive construction and history immerse the visitor immediately: its multi-pillared temples, ornate altars, leisure areas where mandarins would play human chess.

 

 

Vo Vi Pagoda: Vo Vi tu (Vo Vi pagoda)  founded by Dai Si (Bodhisattva) Vo Vi of the Tran dynasty (1225-1400) According to the Annals, a King of the Le built a Palace (as resting place during a trip) on Tu Tram Mountain. People dug a canal at the foot of the mountain to facilitate transportation. According to popular beliefs, there are on the mountain two rocks: the male one (da duong) which announces good weather, the female one (da am) forecasts rain, all by their sounds. The pagoda is built on top of a grotto. A reconstruction took place in 1696 (48 new stone statues). Present constructions dated back to 1913. 

Chuong Village: In the bygone era wearig a Non (conical hats made from palm leaves) was reserved for queens and princesses but now it is worn by countless Vietnamese. Chuong Village in Phuong Trung Commune, Thanh Oai District, near Hanoi is known nationwide as the home for making this iconic Vietnamese cultural symbol. huong Village’s  Non is thick, firm and durable and the market in the village which operates 6 times a month attracts a great number of sellers and buyers who are interested in the hat.
